Snippet of our Contribution to Communities
There is a quote:
“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
Sasha Gammampila, originally from Sri Lanka and the founder of Deliqa Gems says “it’s important to give back and support local communities who have far less opportunities". Her support of the Foundation of Goodness in Sri Lanka, helps to bridge this gap by improving living conditions of these under privileged rural communities.
Many families cannot escape poverty and lack the opportunities without the valuable support and contributions that can make such a difference to their standard of living.
Deliqa Gems is pleased to be able to contribute to three new tube water wells and four new toilets to the impoverished village of 140 individuals in Aalady-Uduvil (Jaffna District) after a local monk publicised their plight.
Deliqa Gems is always quick to respond with contributions to support Sri Lankan communities during times of environmental disasters such as the landslides or floods that occur in central country on a regular basis, and with food donations for families without an income during the current Covid pandemic.
Deliqa Gems is also very proud to have donated two incredible sapphire jewellery pieces to the Dandelion’s Wishes Foundation run by the Monash Children’s Hospital at their yearly Gala. This amazing fundraising initiative has provided for a newly built Monash Children’s Hospital opened in 2017 and is established as a world leading paediatric facility.
Contributing to these voluntary run Gala events ensures that funding is made available to provide equipment and the best treatments available in children’s health care.
For the Monash Children’s Gala of 2018 Deliqa Gems contributed this stunning natural unheated 1.55 ct cornflower blue radiant cut sapphire (a colour synonymous with its Ceylon ancestry) centrally placed in a diamond Art Deco inspired pendant in 18k white gold, designed by Hannan Jewellery Designs. This desirable pendant was auctioned and raised $7,500.
In 2018 the total sum of $430,000 was raised to allow the purchase of a new echocardiograph for the PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit) ensuring the best possible care for children.
For the Monash Children’s Gala of 2019 Deliqa Gems contributed a magnificent natural unheated 2.58 ct cushion shaped sky-blue sapphire of Sri Lankan origin. Delicately placed in the heart of an alternative design as suited with the theme of the Gala night with a diamond orbit and finished in a mix of yellow, white and rose gold, designed by Hannan Jewellery Designs. A statement pendant that was auctioned and raised $7,000.
In 2019, $800,000 was raised to support the establishment of the new Paediatric Emergency Department, ensuring the best possible care for children.
Deliqa’s Contribution to the Good Ball Charity Gala 2024
We’re honored to have donated a breathtaking Ceylon sapphire and diamond pendant valued at $8,000 for 2024 Good Ball Charity Gala. Thanks to the generosity of gala attendees, our piece raised an impressive $12,800 for the Foundation of Goodness, directly supporting uplifting initiatives in Sri Lanka’s rural communities.
Our partnership with the Foundation of Goodness has grown over the years, and we are continually inspired by the impactful work they do. We extend our deepest gratitude to our wonderful Deliqa clients, whose support made this meaningful contribution possible, and to the Doing Good Foundation for organizing this impactful event.
